Immigration Deports Indian Citizen for Overstaying in West Java
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS— The Immigration Office in Tasikmalaya has deported an Indian national, identified as MS (41), for overstaying his visa by more than a year. The deportation was carried out via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday (May 25, 2024).
Iman Muhammad, Head of Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement (Inteldakim), representing Tasikmalaya Immigration Office Head Surjono, stated that MS had exceeded his permitted stay by 466 days.
“According to immigration regulations, overstaying by more than 60 days results in administrative actions including detention, deportation, and blacklisting,” explained Iman in an official statement in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.
MS was escorted to his home country on an IndiGo flight from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Three immigration officers accompanied MS from Tasikmalaya to Jakarta. “We have detained the individual for nearly a month at the Tasikmalaya Immigration Office detention center while he arranged his return flight. All expenses were borne by him,” added Iman.
MS had been residing in Cireuma, Kertamukti Village, Cimerak district, Pangandaran regency, West Java, after marrying an Indonesian woman, identified as TSE.
Their marriage was officially registered on September 22, 2022, at the Cimerak District Office of Religious Affairs (KUA).
Since their marriage, MS extended his stay only once using a visa on arrival and did not apply for any other types of residence permits, resulting in an overstay of 466 days.
Iman highlighted that the success of the Inteldakim team in identifying problematic foreign nationals supports the Directorate General of Immigration’s efforts to monitor and regulate the presence of foreign nationals within the jurisdiction of the Tasikmalaya Immigration Office.
