SELAYAR, RAKYAT NEWS– Regent Basli Ali received an honorary visit from the Japanese Consul, Ohashi Koichi, at his office. The visit was related to investment plans in Selayar.

Selayar regency is an administrative region located in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

It is an archipelago consisting of several islands, with the main island being Selayar Island. The regency is known for its rich marine biodiversity and natural beauty, including pristine beaches, coral reefs, and diverse marine life. This makes it a significant area for fisheries and tourism.

The local economy largely depends on fisheries, agriculture, and tourism. The region’s rich marine resources make it a hub for fishing, especially for species like squid, octopus, and various fish.

Selayar is also a growing tourist destination due to its natural attractions, such as Taka Bonerate National Park, which is renowned for its extensive coral reefs and is one of the largest atoll regions in the world.

Selayar’s strategic location and natural resources make it an attractive destination for investment in sectors like fisheries, tourism, and agriculture.

Basli revealed that the Japanese government is interested in the potential of the Selayar Islands. The Japanese Consul arrived with two companies from Japan that operate in the fisheries sector.

“He plans to invest in squid and octopus in Selayar. We will discuss this further,” said the Regent after his meeting with Ohashi Koichi on Friday (June 14, 2024).

Regent Basli added that Japan is one of the countries with a significant role on the international stage, in terms of economy, technology, and culture.
