In addition to devotees from India, there were also Hindu worshippers from Malaysia present at the temple’s opening, underscoring the regional significance of the event. Among the attendees was Manadin, a Hindu resident from Bogor, West Java, who came with six family members. “I had to be here. As a Hindu, this temple is sacred to me, so I had to come,” he remarked.

During the inauguration, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto sent his greetings to Hindus both in Indonesia and around the world. His message was delivered by his representative, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, who addressed the attendees at the event. “He sends his regards, especially to the Hindu community in India and globally, for this extraordinary temple inauguration,” Hashim stated.

While President Prabowo initially planned to attend the event, his absence was due to health concerns. Hashim explained that despite plans to participate, the President had to prioritize his health, leading to the decision for him not to attend. Nonetheless, Hashim emphasized the importance of the temple as a symbol of Indonesia’s diversity and commitment to Pancasila values.

The inauguration of the Jakarta Murugan Temple was celebrated as a proud moment for Indonesia, reflecting the country’s commitment to religious harmony and pluralism. Despite being a predominantly Muslim country, Indonesia has long prided itself on its rich cultural and religious diversity, and the presence of Hindu temples is a testament to this inclusive spirit.

Hashim also noted that the temple’s establishment is a positive example of Indonesia’s ability to uphold and respect religious diversity, and he expressed pride in the country’s tradition of peaceful coexistence between different religious communities. This new temple will undoubtedly serve as a beacon of faith and cultural exchange for years to come. (Uki Ruknuddin)
