JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Hindu devotees from India attended the grand opening of the Shri Sanathana Dharma Aalayam, or Jakarta Murugan Temple, located in Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Among those who made the journey was Mangalathu Sankaran Chandran, a 65-year-old man from Kerala, India.

He expressed that this event was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which prompted him to travel from India to witness the temple’s inauguration.

Chandran praised the temple’s impressive architecture, especially the Rajagopuram, a towering structure that is a key feature of the temple. While some parts of the temple were still under construction, he commended the overall design and structural integrity.

He noted that although the temple is a modern construction, its appearance is reminiscent of the ancient temples found in India, yet with modern amenities such as electricity, internet, and CCTV security systems, ensuring a safe environment for visitors and worshippers.

He also mentioned the peaceful atmosphere of the temple, stating that it felt very tranquil and soothing. “The atmosphere is very good and calming. I feel very comfortable and at peace here. I really like it,” he added. Chandran went on to express his admiration for Indonesia, describing it as a peaceful country where people can freely worship and pray, regardless of their religion.

Chandran hoped that the Jakarta Murugan Temple would become a major religious center, attracting Hindu worshippers both from Indonesia and abroad. He also expressed a desire to return to the temple in the future if given the opportunity.
