SOUTH KALIMANTAN, RAKYAT NEWS – The prominet diplomat, Rut Krüger Giverin who is alsl the Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, has expressed appreciation for the efforts of local communities involved in Forest and Land Rehabilitation (RHL) in South Kalimantan. The Ambassador participated in a tree-planting event with five Forest Farmers Groups (KTH) and held a dialogue with the community members. The KTH members expressed their hopes for continued improvement and support for RHL programs, particularly in South Kalimantan.

This rehabilitation program is part of a collaborative effort between Indonesia and Norway through the Partnership in Support of Indonesia’s Effort to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission from Forestry and Other Land Use. It is implemented under the FOLU Norway Contribution Phase One (FOLU NC-1) project. South Kalimantan has been allocated IDR 38.19 billion for the rehabilitation of 1,724 hectares of land.

Siti Nurbaya, the former Minister of Environment and Forestry and initiator of the FOLU Net Sink 2030, also praised the significant progress made in South Kalimantan. She highlighted the strong community involvement in the RHL efforts and expressed confidence that the province is leading the way in land rehabilitation.

The Norwegian Government continues to support Indonesia’s efforts to reduce deforestation and carbon emissions. Norway’s financial assistance stems from Indonesia’s successful reduction in deforestation, a move that has earned global recognition.

Ambassador Giverin commended the KTH Berkah Sulasih group in Sungai Arfat, which has collaborated with the South Kalimantan local government to effectively implement RHL programs. She emphasized the importance of active participation from both local communities and regional governments in efforts to mitigate climate change and reduce emissions.
