Barito Renewables’ Star Energy Geothermal Aims for Sustainable Future with Capacity Boost
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS — Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of Barito Renewables, has announced a significant increase in its geothermal energy capacity following its success in the tender at the International Geothermal Conference and Exhibition 2024 (IIGCE). The total investment for this initiative is estimated at IDR 5.28 trillion (approximately USD 346 million).
The company aims to enhance its geothermal capacity through strategic retrofitting and the addition of new facilities. This move aligns with Indonesia’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
Hendra Tan, CEO of Barito Renewables, stated, “This marks a pivotal moment for Star Energy Geothermal as we advance Indonesia’s renewable energy infrastructure. By retrofitting and expanding existing power plants, we ensure a sustainable and efficient future for clean energy.”
The announced projects include both new expansions and capacity upgrades across multiple units. These initiatives will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of Star Energy Geothermal.
One of the key projects is the expansion of Salak Unit 7, which will add 40 MW in collaboration with JO PT Timas Suplindo and PT Rekayasa Industri. This project is part of the effort to utilize the Salak injection realignment program effectively.
Another important expansion is at Wayang Windu Unit 3, set to add 30 MW with the support of PT Inti Karya Persada Teknik. This expansion will optimize existing surface facilities to increase overall capacity.
In addition to new projects, several existing units will undergo retrofitting. The retrofits for Wayang Windu Units 1 & 2 aim to enhance technology and efficiency, resulting in an increase of 18.4 MW in total capacity.
