Strengthening Partnerships: UK Minister Anneliese Dodds Supports Local Eco-Initiatives in Maros
MAROS, RAKYAT NEWS – Anneliese Dodds, the UK Minister for International Development, Women, and Equality, visited Maros of South Sulawesi on Wednesday, 18 September, to assess local ecosystems and the region’s green economic initiatives.
This visit underscores the UK’s commitment to international collaboration on sustainability, women empowerment and environmental protection.
During her tour, Dodds emphasized the significance of Maros’ historical sites, describing them as invaluable assets crucial for the region’s heritage.
“These priceless resources are essential not just for our culture but for our identity as a community.” she said
The minister expressed her excitement about visiting various locations, saying, “I look forward to engaging with the local communities and experiencing firsthand the unique ecosystems and historical landmarks that Maros has to offer.”
In addition to her site visits, Dodds plans to meet with local groups in Tukamasea and Bonto Manurung. These groups are actively promoting ecotourism, women empowerment and sustainable economic growth, aiming to create a model for others to follow.
“I am eager to speak with local leaders, especially women, who are at the forefront of driving inclusive and green development,” she added.
Dodds praised the South Sulawesi government’s initiatives, which aim to balance economic impact with environmental conservation.
“South Sulawesi serves as a commendable example of ecological preservation and sustainable development,” she noted, recognizing the positive outcomes of community-driven projects in the area.
She affirmed the UK’s commitment to partnering with Indonesia in achieving sustainable development goals.
