SURABAYA, RAKYAT NEWS – Pertamina Patra Niaga has announced the completion of a new underground pipeline system for delivering aviation fuel at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. The upgraded Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) now features an advanced tank and hydrant fuel system that automates the distribution of aviation fuel directly from storage tanks through underground pipelines.

Pertamina Patra Niaga is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), the largest state-owned oil and gas company in Indonesia. Pertamina Patra Niaga primarily focuses on the distribution and trading of petroleum products, including fuel and lubricants. The company plays a critical role in ensuring the supply and distribution of energy resources across Indonesia, supporting both domestic needs and industrial operations.

Specifically, Pertamina Patra Niaga handles the management of fuel terminals, distribution networks, and logistics, ensuring efficient delivery of products such as aviation fuel, gasoline, and diesel to various sectors, including aviation, transportation, and industry.

Riva Siahaan, President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, stated that this new system will also utilize hydrant dispenser trucks for aircraft refueling. “The new facility aims to improve the reliability of aviation fuel supply at Terminal 2 of Juanda International Airport, which previously relied on refueler trucks,” he explained. This upgrade is expected to enhance operational efficiency and service quality for airline customers.

The new system is designed to double the fuel storage capacity, extending fuel supply resilience to 20 days. This improvement supports the high demand for aviation fuel, especially for international flights, including Umrah services and large foreign carriers. The hydrant dispenser system ensures faster fuel delivery, meeting the needs of high-capacity aircraft more efficiently.

The facility’s design incorporates advanced filtration technology to maintain global standards of aviation fuel quality. It has also received operational clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (KEMENHUB) in June 2024 and the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (KESDM) in July 2024. Equipped with safety features such as Fire Protection, Lightning Protection, and Cathodic Protection, the new infrastructure aligns with international standards.

This enhancement at Juanda Airport is part of Pertamina Patra Niaga’s broader strategy to modernize and streamline fuel distribution systems across key Indonesian airports. By investing in advanced infrastructure, Pertamina aims to bolster its operational capabilities and support the growing aviation sector, contributing to smoother and more reliable airport operations nationwide.

The new hydrant fuel system represents a significant leap forward in addressing the logistical challenges of fueling international flights. As airports continue to expand and the demand for efficient fuel supply solutions increases, Pertamina’s investment positions Juanda Airport as a leading example of modern airport fuel management in the region.

Looking ahead, Pertamina Patra Niaga plans to replicate this successful model at other major airports to further enhance its service network. This proactive approach underscores the company’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s aviation industry and ensuring that its infrastructure meets both current and future demands. (Uki Ruknuddin)
