JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Malaysia’s Pusat Zakat Melaka, a prominent Zakat collection and distribution institution, is currently undertaking a learning journey with Indonesia’s National Board of Zakat (Baznas RI) to enhance its zakat management practices.

Baznas stands for Badan Amil Zakat Nasional, which translates to the National Board of Zakat in Indonesia. It is an institution mandated by the Indonesian government to manage and distribute zakat, which is a form of almsgiving in Islam. Baznas oversees the collection, distribution, and utilization of zakat funds to support those in need and promote socio-economic welfare in Indonesia. The organization plays a crucial role in coordinating zakat activities nationwide and ensuring transparency and accountability in zakat management.

Datuk Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Sabtu, Chief Executive Officer of Pusat Zakat Melaka, expressed his enthusiasm during their visit to Baznas RI’s Jakarta office on Monday (8/7/2024), stating, “We are here to learn from Baznas so that we can apply best practices in Melaka. There are many aspects we are exploring, particularly in fund collection and distribution of zakat, infak, and sedekah.”

Mohamad Azmi praised Baznas RI’s comprehensive approach to zakat distribution, which reaches diverse stakeholders across Indonesia, describing it as particularly compelling for their learning journey.

“We are grateful to Baznas RI, Prof. Noor, and their team for welcoming us. This meeting holds significant meaning for us because Baznas manages zakat across Indonesia, a country with a substantial population and effective zakat management,” he remarked.

Noor Achmad, Chairman of Baznas RI, highlighted the visit as a valuable exchange of experiences and information on zakat management practices between the two countries. “This exchange allows us to share insights into our respective visions, missions, and implemented programs at Baznas throughout Indonesia,” he explained.
