Amnesty International reiterated that regardless of whether the perpetrators are state or non-state actors, they must be held accountable through the general criminal justice system, as stipulated under Indonesia’s Criminal Code. Ensuring equal treatment before the law, Hamid said, is essential to preventing a cycle of impunity that has long been associated with violence in Papua.
Local residents expressed their anger and grief by carrying the victim’s body to the official residence of the Yahukimo Regent on 27 November, demanding answers and accountability.
