JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Syamsu Rizal, an Indonesian legislator from the Commission I of the Indonesian Law Maker House of Representatives (DPR RI), has strongly rejected the proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to relocate the residents of Gaza to Egypt and Jordan amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement issued on Thursday (6/2) in Jakarta, Deng Ical, as he is commonly known, emphasized that the relocation plan is not only unrealistic but also dismissive of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people. He argued that such a plan contradicts humanitarian principles and international law.

“This plan disregards the right of the Palestinian people to live in their homeland. Palestine is a country recognized by the United Nations, and any just solution must be based on the acknowledgment of their rights as an independent nation,” said Deng Ical, a member of the National Awakening Party (PKB).

As part of the plan, Indonesia was mentioned as one of the countries that could be a destination for resettling displaced Gazans. Deng Ical, who represents the first electoral district of South Sulawesi, made it clear that the Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto must reject this proposal.

He added that Indonesia, which has long supported Palestine’s independence, should not become involved in efforts that undermine the Palestinian people’s struggle for sovereignty. “Indonesia should not be part of a plan that weakens the cause of the Palestinian people,” he asserted.

Deng Ical further stressed that the relocation plan violates the two-state solution, a long-established international consensus. Instead of promoting peace, he believes that the relocation would create new problems, further complicating the situation for Palestinians.
