75 Years of Cooperation: Russia and Indonesia Pledge Stronger Future Ties
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Russian Ambassador’s residence in Indonesia became the venue for a grand reception marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia. The event also coincided with Russia’s Diplomats’ Day, highlighting decades of mutual trust and cooperation between the two nations.
Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov, Russian Ambassador to ASEAN Evgeny Zagaynov, and Indonesia’s Minister of Culture Fadli Zon delivered opening remarks. They reflected on the historical significance of the bilateral relationship and emphasized the strengthening collaboration in various sectors, including political dialogue, trade, education, and cultural exchanges.
The reception welcomed high-profile guests, including Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Regional Representatives, and Mardani Ali Sera, Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the House of Representatives. Also in attendance were Andy Rachmianto, Director General for Protocol and Consulate Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dave Laksono, Deputy Chair of Commission I of the House of Representatives.
A key highlight of the evening was an archival photo exhibition set up in the main hall. The display featured rare photographs documenting significant moments in Russian-Indonesian diplomacy, such as meetings between Nikita Khrushchev and President Soekarno and the handover of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) to Indonesia. These historical snapshots illustrated the deep-rooted ties that have shaped the two countries’ partnership.
The event provided a platform for strengthening people-to-people connections, with guests engaging in discussions about future opportunities for collaboration. Russian-Indonesian relations have flourished over the decades, evolving from political cooperation to broader engagements in culture, defense, and economic growth.
