Indonesia, Japan Strengthen Ties with $9.3 Trillion Loan for Patimban Port Expansion
BOGOR, RAKYAT NEWS – A pivotal meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday (Jan. 11) yielded significant bilateral agreements. The talks, held at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, highlighted Japan’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s socio-economic development.
Prime Minister Ishiba expressed admiration for Indonesia’s progress and affirmed Japan’s readiness to collaborate on key sectors, including food security, energy self-sufficiency, industrialization, and public health.
“I am deeply moved by Indonesia’s achievements and eager to contribute through meaningful cooperation,” said Ishiba during the discussions.
One major outcome was Japan’s interest in assisting Indonesia’s free nutritious meal program. Drawing from its 80 years of experience in managing public nutrition, Japan will provide expertise in training and implementing school lunch programs. This initiative is expected to enhance food security and improve children’s health nationwide.
In addition to nutritional programs, Japan pledged to support Indonesia’s energy and industrialization goals. Prime Minister Ishiba announced plans to collaborate on renewable energy projects, including geothermal, hydrogen, and ammonia energy development. These initiatives aim to secure energy stability and promote environmental sustainability.
Japan also agreed to aid Indonesia’s maritime security by donating high-speed patrol vessels under its Official Security Assistance program. This gesture underscores the shared maritime priorities of the two nations, both being archipelagic states with strategic geopolitical interests.
Further, both leaders emphasized the importance of disaster mitigation. As nations prone to natural disasters, Indonesia and Japan will deepen collaboration on volcanic disaster management and other risk-reduction measures. This partnership is expected to enhance regional preparedness and resilience.
