JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is actively engaging with the curators of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex) to ensure that the Southeast Asian textile giant remains operational and avoids layoffs.

The minister emphasized that national interests should be prioritized during this critical period.

“We are reaching out to the curators to ensure that we prioritize national interests. We want them to understand the significance of the textile sector and the role Sritex plays in it,” said Minister Agus in Jakarta on Friday.

His primary goal is to prevent the disruption of production at Sritex, which would negatively impact both the company and its workforce.

The situation surrounding Sritex is far more complex than it initially seems. The company, one of the largest textile producers in Southeast Asia, was recently declared bankrupt following a court ruling.

Despite the bankruptcy decision, the Minister of Industry is doing everything possible to keep the company running.

Sritex employs a substantial number of people and has a solid reputation in international markets. Minister Agus emphasized that maintaining the company’s operations is crucial not just for the workers, but for the overall economic impact on the country.

“Sritex products are well-regarded and widely exported. If the company halts production, the gap in the market could be filled by foreign producers, which would be a loss for our domestic economy,” Agus explained, highlighting the potential consequences of the company ceasing its operations.

Previously, Sritex’s management filed for a judicial review after the Supreme Court rejected their cassation appeal against the bankruptcy ruling issued by the Semarang Commercial Court. The legal battle has drawn significant attention, as it involves the fate of a major player in the textile industry.
