Pondok Cabe Airport to Transform into Low-Carbon Hub with German Collaboration
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Indonesia’s efforts to create sustainable infrastructure have received a significant boost with the launch of a new green initiative at Pondok Cabe Airport.
In collaboration with the German company Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), the project aims to turn the airport into a low-carbon emission facility by applying energy conservation and renewable energy technologies.
The partnership between PT Pelita Air and the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 6, 2024.
The MoU lays the foundation for the airport’s transformation into an environmentally friendly hub, aligned with Indonesia’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
Under this agreement, GIZ will assist the Indonesian government by providing technical expertise and supporting the implementation of green technologies at the airport. These initiatives will focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy utilization, and the development of an eco-airport model for Pondok Cabe.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of PT Pelita Air Service in Jakarta, with key figures in attendance, including Dendy Kurniawan, CEO of PT Pelita Air, and Eniya Listiani Dewi, the Director-General of EBTKE, represented by Secretary Sahid Junaidi.
The partnership is expected to generate positive environmental impacts and promote sustainable energy practices.
Eniya Listiani Dewi expressed her hope that the collaboration would not only improve energy management at Pondok Cabe Airport but also create new employment opportunities. She emphasized that the efforts are part of Indonesia’s broader agenda to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
