AMBON, RAKYAT NEWS – The Moluccas or Maluku provincial government has successfully exported 15.38 tons of frozen octopus to Mexico, marking a significant achievement for local fisheries.

The export was facilitated by a private company and took place through the Yos Sudarso Port in Ambon.

Acting Governor Sadali Ie announced the export’s details, highlighting the shipment’s value at approximately $63,153 (IDR 982 million). “With our abundant natural resources, this first shipment of frozen octopus is a promising step for local businesses looking to explore international markets,” said Sadali.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, businesses, and fishermen to ensure a steady production supply to meet international demand.

The provincial government reported that the total value of fishery exports from Maluku has reached $56 million, with an impressive production volume of 764,776 tons. This figure is nearly on par with last year’s total export value of $60 million.

Currently, Maluku exports fishery products to 14 countries, including China, the United States, Japan, and Vietnam. The primary export commodities include vannamei shrimp, tuna, live grouper, and mud crabs.

Sadali noted that the growth in fishery exports is a testament to the dedication of various stakeholders, including the Ambon Customs Office and the Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, which work to streamline export processes.

This development follows recent milestones, such as Indonesia’s inaugural frozen octopus export to Japan and significant exports from other regions. (Uki Ruknuddin)
