JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics has announced a strategic initiative to “enhance” the governance of foreign media visit permits and recommendations in Indonesia.

This initiative is seen as a critical step for Indonesia to solidify its position on the global stage by developing a more efficient, transparent, and structured system.

Mediodecci Lustarini, Secretary of the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication, emphasized the importance of modernizing foreign media governance.

“We aim to establish Indonesia as a country with robust, transparent, and professional regulations for foreign media management,” Lustarini stated in a press release.

The governance initiative will encompass foreign media operations, including the establishment of foreign media offices and the placement of correspondents in Indonesia.

Lustarini noted that the current manual registration process lacks specific standards and can be cumbersome, involving multiple government agencies.

The development of a more structured media permit registration system aims not only to streamline administrative processes but also to minimize bureaucratic hurdles and discrepancies.

This enhancement is increasingly crucial given the significant role foreign media plays in shaping Indonesia’s international image.

Lustarini highlighted that this initiative aligns with Indonesia’s commitment to addressing global challenges. “In a world where information flows across borders, Indonesia must maintain strong and transparent governance,” she said, ensuring that all foreign media activities comply with clear legal principles, uphold responsible press freedom, and protect national interests.

This initiative is expected to raise standards for foreign media visits, ultimately strengthening Indonesia’s global reputation. It aims to benefit not just the government but also all stakeholders both domestically and internationally.
