BORNEO, RAKYAT NEWS – The Batulicin Immigration Office in South Borneo has deported a 42-year-old Algerian national, identified as BL, for overstaying his visa by 60 days in Beruntung Jaya village, Satui district.

Ferizal, head of the Batulicin Immigration Office, explained that although BL initially held a valid visitor visa, it expired on July 16, 2024. BL had arrived in South Kalimantan on May 18, 2024, after meeting a local woman on social media.

The couple married and lived with her family for four months before the family discovered that BL’s visa was no longer valid.

Following the discovery, the woman’s family reported the situation to immigration authorities, seeking an extension for BL’s visit.

However, officials clarified that his “bridging visa” was non-renewable and only valid for 60 days, requiring him to leave Indonesia before the expiration date.

BL was fined IDR 60 million (approximately USD 4,000) for overstaying, calculated at IDR 1 million per day according to Presidential Regulation No. 28 of 2019.

Unable to pay the fine, BL is now banned from re-entering Indonesia for six months.( Uki Ruknuddin)
