BALI, RAKYAT NEWS- The Indonesian giant Pertamina Patra Niaga and the mining Vale Indonesia have announced a new partnership to supply environmentally friendly hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), known as Pertamina Renewable Diesel.

The agreement aims to support Indonesia’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2060.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Pertamina Patra Niaga’s President Director, Riva Siahaan, and Vale Indonesia’s President Director, Febriany Eddy, on Monday, September 9, 2024, in Bali.

Riva highlighted that this collaboration represents a significant commitment to reducing carbon emissions through the use of clean energy. HVO fuel has the potential to cut carbon emissions by up to 85% and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%.

Pertamina Patra Niaga will utilize its Pertamina One Solution service to offer integrated energy solutions tailored to meet the diverse needs of its business partners, including Vale Indonesia. This includes providing cleaner fuel and efficient logistical and infrastructural support to ensure optimal and sustainable business operations.

Additionally, the partnership will focus on community empowerment programs to enhance environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, in collaboration with Pertamina Foundation.

This initiative aims to generate lasting positive impacts for local communities and uphold social and environmental responsibility.

Vale Indonesia’s Febriany Eddy stated that the strategic collaboration aligns with the company’s decarbonization roadmap.

“This partnership is crucial for PT Vale Indonesia Tbk to achieve and enhance sustainability standards and reduce carbon emissions across our operations.”

“Products and services from Pertamina Patra Niaga, such as HVO, will greatly support our decarbonization journey,” she said (Uki Ruknuddin)
