JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS– In a notable development, Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has announced that the country achieved zero terrorist attacks in 2023. This milestone reflects a significant success in the nation’s efforts to combat terrorism. The BNPT attributes this achievement to a robust and comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy that integrates various aspects of prevention and enforcement.

The agency’s success highlights the effectiveness of Indonesia’s multi-faceted approach to tackling terrorism, which includes improving the capabilities of security forces and fostering cooperation among different stakeholders. This achievement is particularly significant given the complex and evolving nature of global terrorism threats.

Darmansjah Djumala, an expert with BNPT, highlighted that the effectiveness of the counter-terrorism measures was due to a well-coordinated approach encompassing both preventive and enforcement strategies. He emphasized the importance of engaging various stakeholders in preventing the spread of terrorism, particularly as the threat now affects women and children.

Djumala also noted the critical role of international cooperation in combating terrorism. He referenced the 2024 Global Terrorism Index, which indicates an increase in terrorism in regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. In this context, he underscored the importance of collaboration with countries like India, particularly regarding information exchange and capacity building to address terrorism linked to refugee movements, such as those involving Rohingya refugees.

The BNPT’s achievement underscores the potential of integrated counter-terrorism strategies in reducing the incidence of terrorist activities. As global terrorism continues to pose challenges, Indonesia’s approach offers a model for effective national and international counter-terrorism efforts.
