KUALA LUMPUR, RAKYATNEWS – Batik Air is expanding its service network by introducing new routes from Kuala Lumpur to four key destinations in Indonesia: Lombok, Surabaya, Pekanbaru, and Padang. This move is set to enhance connectivity between Malaysia and Indonesia, promoting greater cultural and economic exchange.

Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, the Chief Executive Officer of Batik Air, announced on Thursday 1 August 2024 that that these new routes are designed to meet the growing demand for travel and to support economic growth through easier business transactions and partnerships. The introduction of these routes aims to boost tourism and facilitate increased business interactions between the two countries.

“Our network expansion not only addresses the rising travel demand but also fosters economic development by easing business transactions and partnerships,” said Muthy. “We anticipate that these new routes will stimulate trade and investment opportunities.”

Muthy also highlighted Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as a strategic hub for Umrah pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia, particularly from Southeast Asia. Batik Air already offers direct flights to Jeddah and will soon begin services to Madinah in August. The addition of these new routes is expected to enhance KLIA’s connectivity and capacity, offering more convenient options for travelers and strengthening its status as a major international transit hub.

Starting Wednesday, July 31, Batik Air will operate flights to Lombok, followed by the launch of services to Surabaya on August 1.

Flights to Pekanbaru and Padang will commence on August 10.

Batik Air plans to offer 14 weekly flights to Surabaya, four to Lombok, and seven each to Pekanbaru and Padang.

These new routes are set to provide easier access to popular destinations in Indonesia, contributing to the region’s tourism and business growth. (Uki Ruknuddin)
