Indonesian Task Force’s Rapid Response: Facilitating Repatriation of Deceased Migrant Worker from Japan
WEST JAVA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Task Force for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) under the Cirebon Manpower Office (Disnaker) has facilitated the repatriation process of a migrant worker’s remains from Japan. The worker, identified as Tarsono from the region, passed away due to illness.
“We received reports of Tarsono’s demise due to illness in Japan. The P2MI task force was immediately mobilized to assist in repatriating the remains,” stated Novi Herdianto, Head of Disnaker Cirebon, on Monday, July 8, 2024.
Novi explained that their office first handled administrative procedures to facilitate the repatriation of the victim’s remains from Japan to Indonesia. Additionally, the P2MI Disnaker task force coordinated with the Emergency Response Team (PSC 119) of the Cirebon Health Office prior to retrieving the victim’s remains.
“We picked up the victim’s remains at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The process of handover and repatriation went smoothly,” she confirmed.
Novi noted that after completing necessary administrative procedures, the migrant worker’s remains were finally repatriated and handed over to the family in Cirebon on Saturday, July 6.
“This swift response is part of Disnaker Cirebon’s responsibility to ensure protection for migrant workers and their families,” she emphasized.
She further added, “We continue to actively participate in providing protection to migrant workers, including facilitating the repatriation of workers facing issues from their host countries, whether they are in good health, ill, or deceased.”
Earlier in May 2024, Disnaker facilitated the return of nine migrant workers from Cirebon who encountered issues in their host countries. Among them, three returned due to illness, while six workers returned deceased.
