The Korean Daewoo Eyes Strategic Oil and Gas Projects in Indonesia
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – President Prabowo Subianto has warmly welcomed South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction to invest in Indonesia’s oil and gas as well as construction sectors. The statement was made following a meeting with Daewoo representatives at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
During his speech at the 49th Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention and Exhibition (Convex) 2025 held at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Prabowo emphasized the government’s openness to foreign investors from all countries willing to contribute to Indonesia’s development. “We are open and welcome anyone, from any nation, who wants to participate,” he said.
The president reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to attracting strategic investments, particularly in sectors that could enhance national economic growth and energy security. These sectors are key to supporting Indonesia’s long-term development goals.
Prabowo also expressed optimism over the high level of international interest in Indonesia’s energy sector. The IPA Convex 2025 event was attended by delegates from about 60 countries, including global energy giants like ExxonMobil, Mubadala Energy, and BP.
“We see tremendous enthusiasm here. Around 60 countries are participating today, with major companies like ExxonMobil, Mubadala, and BP actively involved,” said Prabowo, highlighting the event’s significance for global energy cooperation.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of a significant gas field discovery in the Andaman region by Mubadala Energy. This new find is being hailed as one of the largest in Southeast Asia in recent decades, and a potential game-changer for regional energy supplies.
“Mubadala discovered one of the largest gas fields in the Andaman. They reported plans for 10 floating production systems (FPS), which is truly extraordinary,” Prabowo stated. The scale of the project underlines Indonesia’s growing importance in the global energy landscape.
