Indonesia Secures $60 Million to Power Saguling Floating Solar Plant
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Indonesia has secured $60 million (around Rp994.68 billion) in funding from three prominent international financial institutions to develop the Saguling Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in West Bandung Regency, West Java.
This project marks a major step forward in Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to clean energy as part of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The financing is supported by Germany’s DEG, France’s PROPARCO, and the UK’s Standard Chartered Bank. Their investment highlights strong global confidence in Indonesia’s renewable energy sector and its potential to contribute to sustainable economic development.
At the signing ceremony held at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on April 29, Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the initiative is more than just a clean energy project—it represents a milestone in international collaboration for sustainable growth.
“This investment illustrates the power of global partnerships—between government, international stakeholders, and the private sector—in pushing forward the clean energy transition while promoting inclusive and resilient growth,” Hartarto stated.
The Saguling PLTS project, led by PLN Indonesia Power in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, will have a capacity of 92 megawatt-peak (MWp). Once operational, it is projected to reduce annual carbon emissions by 63,100 tons and boost the nation’s solar energy capacity by 13%.
Reaffirming Indonesia’s long-term energy goals, Hartarto noted that the government is continuously enhancing the investment environment through regulatory reforms, attractive incentives, and active public-private collaboration—critical elements in achieving the country’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.
Strong international support was also expressed by French Ambassador Fabien Penone and British Ambassador Dominic Jermey. Penone affirmed France’s ongoing dedication to renewable energy efforts in Indonesia, while Jermey highlighted the UK’s plan to finalize a $1 billion JETP guarantee to further assist the country’s energy transition.
