2025 Election: Makassar Consulate Hosts In-Person Voting for Australians Abroad
MAKASSAR, RAKYAT NEWS – The Australian Consulate-General in Makassar has officially opened its doors for in-person voting in the 2025 Australian federal election. Australian citizens residing in or visiting South Sulawesi can now cast their votes ahead of the national polling day.
Voting is available from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., until Friday, 2 May 2025. The consulate encourages eligible voters to come early and avoid last-minute queues as the deadline approaches.
This initiative is part of the Australian Government’s effort to ensure all citizens living overseas have a fair and convenient opportunity to participate in the democratic process. Similar voting services are also available at various Australian embassies, consulates, and high commissions around the world.
The Consulate-General in Makassar serves as one of several overseas voting locations, providing a vital link between Australia and its citizens abroad. Local consular staff are on hand to assist voters and ensure the process is smooth and secure.
Australian citizens are reminded to bring valid identification and ensure they are enrolled to vote before attending the consulate. Information on voting eligibility and registration is available on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website.
Voters who are unable to attend the consulate in person still have the option of applying for a postal vote through the AEC. Postal ballots must be submitted in time to be counted in the final election results.
The Australian Government has stressed the importance of civic participation and is urging all eligible Australians overseas to take part in shaping the nation’s future through their vote.
As the election approaches, the consulate anticipates a steady flow of voters and is committed to maintaining accessibility, transparency, and efficiency throughout the early voting period. (Uki Ruknuddin)
