JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Australian Embassy in Jakarta recently hosted a special *Buka Puasa* (Iftar) event to celebrate International Women’s Day, bringing together leaders and advocates committed to gender equality. Among the distinguished guests was Indonesian Vice Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Ms. Veronica Tan.

Over one hundred attendees from government, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector gathered to reflect on the progress and challenges in advancing women’s and children’s rights in Indonesia. The event highlighted the importance of collective action in driving meaningful change.

In her remarks, Vice Minister Veronica Tan emphasized the need for stronger collaboration across sectors to empower and protect women and children. She underscored the role of partnerships in addressing systemic barriers to gender equality.

The *Buka Puasa* gathering provided a unique platform for guests to share success stories, exchange ideas, and identify solutions to persistent challenges. Discussions focused on innovative approaches to promoting women’s leadership and economic participation.

Representatives from Indonesian CSOs highlighted grassroots initiatives that have made a tangible impact, while private sector leaders shared how businesses can contribute to gender-inclusive policies and practices.

The Australian Embassy reiterated its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s efforts in achieving gender equality. Australia’s Ambassador emphasized the shared values between the two nations in fostering inclusive development.

The event also celebrated the cultural significance of Ramadan, reinforcing the spirit of unity and solidarity among attendees. Breaking fast together symbolized the collective resolve to advance women’s rights and opportunities.

As the evening concluded, participants left inspired to strengthen partnerships and continue working toward a more equitable future for women and girls in Indonesia and beyond.
