KEEROM PAPUA, RAKYAT NEWS – In a major breakthrough, the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) have arrested a former Indonesian Army (TNI) soldier in Keerom Regency, Papua, after discovering illegal firearms and ammunition in his possession.

The suspect, identified as Yuni Enumbi, also known as Jumuniaso and Sisapugu, was arrested on March 6, 2025, during a joint operation led by the Damai Cartenz Task Force.

Enumbi, 29, previously served as a Private First Class in the TNI Kodam 18 Kasuari Papua Barat. He was found with six firearms, including two long-barrel rifles (SS1 V1) and four handguns (Pindad G2), along with 882 rounds of ammunition. The weapons were cleverly concealed inside an air compressor, a strategy that allowed Enumbi to transport the firearms undetected.

The weapons seized also included several accessories such as rifle magazines and spare parts for the long-barrel rifles. In addition to the firearms, authorities confiscated various other items, including two mobile phones, a portable air pump, a grinder, and multiple bags, all of which are believed to be connected to his arms trafficking activities.

According to the police, Enumbi’s arrest is linked to his involvement with the armed separatist group Lerimayu Telenggen, which is associated with the arm group of Yambi insurgents operating in Papua. Authorities believe he had been acting as a supplier for the group, transporting weapons and ammunition to further fuel insurgency activities in the region.

The investigation revealed that the firearms were sourced from a man known as OM Kurir Bondowoso, a key player in the illegal arms trade. Financial backing for the weapons trafficking operation came from Mindes Kogoya, a known figure with ties to separatist groups in Papua.
