JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – During the 17th anniversary celebration of his political party, Gerindra, Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia and the party’s chairman, addressed the issue of his potential candidacy for the 2029 presidential election.

He made it clear that if his administration’s programs do not succeed, he would not want to be re-nominated for the presidency.

Prabowo emphasized that his lifelong dream is to see Indonesia become a great nation. He expressed his shame at the thought of running for re-election if he were to fail in delivering on his promises to the people. “If I disappoint the people, I will be ashamed to run again,” Prabowo stated, highlighting his sense of accountability to the Indonesian people.

Previously, Gerindra had made the decision to support Prabowo’s candidacy for the 2029 election. This decision was finalized at the party’s extraordinary congress held in Hambalang, West Java, on February 13, 2025. The congress marked a key moment in Gerindra’s political agenda, reaffirming their endorsement of Prabowo’s continued leadership.

Ahmad Muzani, Gerindra’s Secretary-General, mentioned that during the congress, the party’s national leadership called on Prabowo to run for president once again in 2029. Prabowo responded positively, stating “Insha Allah,” but added that he would first focus on fulfilling his current duties as president and honoring his commitments to the people.

The congress included representatives from across the nation, with Gerindra’s leadership from all provinces and regions participating in the decision. The overwhelming support underscored the party’s confidence in Prabowo’s leadership and vision for Indonesia.
