Geely to Open 100 Dealerships in Indonesia Over the Next Three Years
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Geely Auto International Corporation is planning an aggressive expansion in the Indonesian market, aiming to open 100 dealerships across major cities within the next three years. Evin Ye, Vice President of Geely Auto International, shared this ambition during the introduction of the Geely EX5 in Jakarta on January 22, 2025.
The company also revealed plans to assemble its environmentally friendly vehicles locally in Indonesia. Geely Auto Indonesia, the subsidiary responsible for this operation, will utilize local expertise to provide the best possible customer experience. Vehicle assembly will take place at PT Handal Indonesia Motor’s facility in Bekasi, West Java, starting in the second quarter of 2025.
In addition to the EX5, Geely is looking to expand its product lineup in Indonesia. The company plans to introduce five to seven environmentally friendly models within the next three years to cater to the diverse needs of Indonesian consumers, according to Victor Gao, Managing Director of Geely Auto Indonesia.
Geely is not a new player in Indonesia’s automotive market. The Chinese automaker first entered the market in 2010 but withdrew in 2016. Now, the company is making a comeback with a focus on electric vehicles equipped with the latest technology and features.
The newly introduced Geely EX5, an electric vehicle, uses the company’s GEA Architecture platform. One of the standout features of this vehicle is its fast-charging capability, which can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
Geely is confident that its re-entry into the Indonesian market will be successful, particularly with its focus on clean energy vehicles. As the demand for electric vehicles rises globally, Geely’s advanced electric vehicle offerings are expected to cater to the growing Indonesian market.
The upcoming Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025 in February will see the official launch of the Geely EX5, marking the company’s re-entry into the market. The event will also showcase the company’s commitment to contributing to Indonesia’s automotive landscape.
Geely’s strategic plan includes not just expanding its presence through dealerships but also promoting the development of clean energy solutions in the Indonesian automotive industry. With their continued innovation and local production, Geely aims to meet the increasing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles in the country.
This bold expansion marks a significant step for Geely, as it seeks to strengthen its position in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, one of the largest automotive markets in the region. The company’s focus on electric vehicles aligns with global trends towards sustainable mobility, and Geely is positioning itself to be a key player in this transition. (Uki Ruknuddin)
