Overstay Violation: Saudi Tourist Deported Following Mosque Altercation
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Directorate General of Immigration (Ditjen Imigrasi) under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections announced that the assault case involving a mosque caretaker and a Saudi national has been resolved amicably through restorative justice.
Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Yuldi Yusman stated that Rohmat, the caretaker of Al-Muqsith Mosque in Cisarua, Bogor, accepted an apology from the Saudi national, identified as MA, and opted not to prolong the matter. “According to the police chief, both parties have reached a peaceful resolution,” Yusman said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.
Despite the settlement, immigration authorities took administrative action by deporting MA for violating Indonesian immigration laws. Yusman explained that MA had overstayed his visa, breaching Article 78 and Article 75 of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, which also addresses public order disruptions.
Head of the Non-TPI Class I Immigration Office in Bogor, Ruhiyat Tolib, revealed that MA entered Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival (VoA) on December 10, 2024, intended for a short visit. The visa permitted a 30-day stay, extendable upon request. However, MA failed to extend his visa after it expired.
Tolib stated that MA’s visit was purely for tourism, with his entire stay confined to a commercial lodging in Cisarua. “He had no affiliations with Indonesian nationals during his stay,” Tolib added.
The incident that led to MA’s deportation occurred on Sunday, January 12, when he allegedly assaulted Rohmat after being reminded to remove his footwear before entering the mosque’s sacred area. CCTV footage corroborated the altercation, which stemmed from MA’s disregard for the mosque caretaker’s instructions, sparking a heated exchange and physical assault.
