Indonesia and Apple Discuss Investment Plans: New Factory and Job Opportunities on the

JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Nick Amman, Vice President of Global Policy at Apple, expressed that the recent negotiations with the Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) went smoothly and productively.

“Great discussion, great discussion,” Amman remarked following his meeting with the Ministry’s technical team in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

The meeting, which lasted from 3:30 PM to 5:45 PM WIB, focused on Apple’s potential investment in Indonesia.

While Amman did not disclose specific figures regarding the investment, he previously met with Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, who encouraged Apple to establish a manufacturing facility in Indonesia.

This meeting, which sought to extend the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification for Apple’s products, particularly the upcoming iPhone 16, is a key step toward enabling the official sale of this model in Indonesia.

The Indonesian government has urged Apple to consider building a factory in the country, viewing it as a way to create jobs and enhance local industrial capabilities. To date, Apple has favored a third investment option—innovation through initiatives like the Apple Academy.

Minister Agus Gumiwang explained, “Our consideration in encouraging Apple to build a factory is to create job opportunities through this investment.”

Minister for Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, stated that Apple’s planned investment in Indonesia would involve mobile phone component production, with an estimated investment value of $1 billion (around Rp 16 trillion). This investment would mark the official entry of Apple’s newest iPhone model, iPhone 16, into the Indonesian market.
