Pertamina Unveils New Oil and Gas Reserves in Jambi Merang
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) has uncovered a new source of oil and gas (migas) through the exploration of the Sungai Rotan Downloack-1 well in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra.
This exploration confirms the potential of the oil and gas reserves in the Baturaja Formation’s limestone.
The Sungai Rotan Downloack-1 well demonstrated promising results, producing up to 5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) and 93 barrels of condensate per day (BCPD) during flow testing. This discovery underscores PHR’s commitment to bolstering national energy reserves and supporting sustainable energy security.
Suprayitno Adhi Nugroho, VP Exploration for Regional 1, emphasized the importance of the discovery for future production planning.
“This achievement is crucial for developing scenarios that enhance production capabilities, particularly in the PHE Jambi Merang working area,” he stated in a press release on January 3, 2025.
Throughout 2024, PHR recorded significant milestones, producing 58 million barrels of oil, all of which were supplied to domestic Pertamina refineries to support national energy resilience. The company also marked the completion of 1,539 new well drills in the Rokan working area, contributing to an average daily production of over 160,000 barrels of oil.
PHR operates in a vast area covering 6,200 square kilometers across seven regencies in Riau Province. The Rokan working area, which accounts for a quarter of Indonesia’s crude oil production, remains a cornerstone of the nation’s energy supply.
The company’s innovative approaches include advanced techniques such as fracturing in conventional wells, multi-stage fracturing in horizontal wells, and exploration in unconventional oil and gas fields, such as the MNK Gulamo DET-1 and Kelok DET-1 wells. These initiatives further demonstrate the potential for increased production in the Rokan area.
