PALU, RAKYAT NEWS – A significant infrastructure project is underway in Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi. The project, funded by the Japanese government, focuses on the reconstruction of the Palu 4 Bridge, a vital transportation link that has been a key part of the city’s infrastructure for years.

The reconstruction of the Palu 4 Bridge, which is expected to cost approximately IDR 200 billion, is being carried out by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The project has been launched as part of Japan’s commitment to supporting infrastructure development in Indonesia, specifically in the aftermath of the devastating 2018 earthquake and tsunami that severely impacted Central Sulawesi.

JICA has allocated a grant of 2.026 billion Yen (about IDR 200 billion) to fund the reconstruction efforts. This grant reflects Japan’s ongoing partnership with Indonesia in infrastructure development and disaster recovery. The project aims to restore the bridge to its original capacity and improve safety and traffic flow for the people of Palu.

The bridge reconstruction is being handled by Tokyu Construction, a well-established Japanese contractor. According to Diana Kusumastuti, Deputy Minister of Public Works, the project is progressing smoothly, with work expected to be completed by April 2025. This marks a major milestone for the city, which relies heavily on the bridge for transportation.

As of the end of 2024, construction on the Palu 4 Bridge has reached 79.96% completion. The project is progressing on schedule, and the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works has confirmed that the final phase of construction is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. The new bridge will provide a much-needed boost to local infrastructure and connectivity.

The Palu 4 Bridge is an essential part of the city’s infrastructure, connecting Palu Timur (East Palu) and Palu Barat (West Palu). Its reconstruction will enhance connectivity between the two regions, improving the flow of goods and people, which is vital for economic development in the area.

Dadi Muradi, Head of the Public Works Office for Central Sulawesi, emphasized the importance of the Palu 4 Bridge in linking the eastern and western parts of the city. The bridge is a crucial access point for local communities and plays a significant role in the daily lives of residents, ensuring smoother travel and reducing congestion.

Once completed, the new bridge will have a span of 250 meters and will be supported by a 380-meter approach on the western side and a 441-meter approach on the eastern side. The reconstruction of the Palu 4 Bridge will not only restore a critical piece of infrastructure but will also contribute to the overall development and modernization of Central Sulawesi.
