Over 11 Million Travelers Processed in Bali: New Unit Ensures Compliance
BALI, RAKYAT NEWS– The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Badung, Bali, has launched a cyber-immigration unit to enhance the monitoring of foreign nationals (WNA) and address potential immigration violations.
“Monitoring foreign nationals must be conducted proactively,” said Suhendra, the Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, on Thursday.
This specialized cyber unit will focus on searching and analyzing data, gathering information about foreign nationals’ activities through electronic media and social platforms, and monitoring behaviors that may cause public concern. It will also produce regular reports to aid immigration enforcement and operations.
Suhendra emphasized that the establishment of this cyber unit aligns with technological advancements, ensuring the immigration office can adapt to modern methods of oversight. He expects the team to become more effective and responsive in handling violations by foreign nationals.
“Immigration officers must be able to detect potential violations early, particularly those involving social media and news platforms,” he added.
Despite being newly formed, the cyber unit has already addressed four cases of immigration permit abuse, resulting in deportations.
From January to October 2024, 159 foreign nationals were deported, and 209 others were detained by the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office. The majority of deportees were from Nigeria (37 cases), followed by Russia (29), China (19), the United States (17), and both Australia and Uganda (13 each).
