Indonesia Confident in Halting Rice Imports for 2025 as Stocks Surge
Zulkifli elaborated that Bulog, Indonesia’s state logistics agency, holds 1.94 million tons of rice in reserves, while another 6 million tons are available in communities. This brings the total national stock to over 8 million tons, creating a solid buffer against potential shortages.
“With such substantial reserves, we are confident that rice imports in 2025 will be significantly reduced, if not entirely eliminated,” Zulkifli stated. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in ensuring this achievement.
Indonesia’s ambitious goal to eliminate rice imports reflects a broader effort to strengthen food sovereignty while navigating the challenges of climate change and global political dynamics. This milestone not only ensures stability for local farmers but also enhances the country’s resilience against external economic shocks. (Uki Ruknuddin)
