Finland Explores Data Center Development in Indonesia
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Finnish government has expressed a strong interest in developing data centers in Indonesia, marking a significant step toward enhanced digital cooperation between the two countries. This was revealed during a meeting between Finland’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Pekka Kaihilahti, and Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, in Jakarta on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Meutya Hafid highlighted that the discussion focused on opportunities for collaboration in the digital sector, particularly in building data center infrastructure and transferring technological knowledge. She emphasized the importance of international partnerships in accelerating Indonesia’s digital transformation.
“Finland is known for its expertise in digital innovation, while Indonesia boasts a rapidly growing digital economy. We are enthusiastic about the potential collaboration,” Meutya stated during the meeting held at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.
She also underscored the need for the partnership to prioritize the transfer of knowledge and technology from Finland to Indonesia. This, she believes, will not only enhance Indonesia’s human resource capacity but also enable the nation to produce its own technologies and compete globally in the digital arena.
Ambassador Pekka Kaihilahti welcomed the proposal, reiterating Finland’s commitment to sharing its experience and expertise in building efficient digital systems. He outlined Finland’s readiness to provide technical training, mentorship, and strategic collaboration.
“We are offering not just technology but also the know-how to develop robust digital infrastructure and empower human resources. We are confident this partnership will yield significant benefits for both nations,” said Kaihilahti.
The Finnish initiative also aims to improve Indonesia’s domestic capabilities in developing modern data centers, strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem, and ensure connectivity even in remote areas.
