JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group) has been granted the status of a National Vital Object (OVNI) in the industrial sector for its petrochemical plant in Ciwandan, Cilegon, Banten.

The Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia officially awarded this status through Ministerial Decree No. 3023 of 2024. This designation reflects the strategic role of the company in supporting the country’s industrial resilience and self-sufficiency.

The Ciwandan plant, which spans 115.35 hectares, houses state-of-the-art petrochemical facilities, utility assets, and office buildings. It is a key contributor to Indonesia’s domestic petrochemical production and helps reduce dependence on imports, according to Suryandi, Director of HR & Corporate Affairs at Chandra Asri Group.

“This recognition highlights our commitment to meeting domestic demand for petrochemical products and supporting the government and local industries,” said Suryandi.

Chandra Asri has held the OVNI status since 2012, when it was first awarded under Ministerial Decree No. 620/M-IND/Kep/12/2012. The company has worked diligently to operate with high standards of safety, sustainability, and transparency, ensuring that its operations benefit the broader industrial and national economy.

The Ciwandan facility is Indonesia’s first and only Naphta Cracker plant, producing vital petrochemical products such as Olefins (Ethylene and Propylene), Polyolefins (Polyethylene and Polypropylene), Pygas, and Mixed-C4. The plant is also the sole domestic producer of Butadiene, MTBE, and Butene, all essential for various industries.

For over 32 years, Chandra Asri Group has played a central role in Indonesia’s industrial landscape, supplying critical raw materials to sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, electronics, and infrastructure. The company’s strategic location and its extensive range of products have made it a cornerstone of the national and international supply chain.
