JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his reluctance to decline bilateral meeting invitations from the United States and China, citing their status as major global powers. His remarks came during the declaration of the National Solidarity Movement at the Indonesia Arena in Senayan, Jakarta, on November 2, 2024.

Scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden in the U.S. and President Xi Jinping in China, Prabowo will also attend the APEC Summit in Peru and the G20 Summit in Brazil. He emphasized the necessity of these visits for the benefit of the Indonesian people.

“Being invited by both China and America, I couldn’t refuse. For the sake of the people, I must attend,” Prabowo stated during his speech. He highlighted his desire to concentrate on domestic affairs but recognized the importance of international diplomacy.

The President mentioned that fulfilling these invitations is a primary responsibility following his inauguration. He reassured attendees, including members of his cabinet, about the importance of maintaining good relations with all countries.

Prabowo articulated a vision for Indonesia to pursue a diplomatic path characterized by friendship rather than conflict. He asserted that Indonesia should avoid becoming embroiled in disputes among nations.

“Indonesia should take the route of having many friends and few enemies. We must ensure that Indonesia and its people do not get caught up in other countries’ conflicts. We respect all nations,” he remarked.

He emphasized that Indonesia aims to be a good neighbor and partner but does not wish to be a pawn in international relations. This stance reflects a commitment to balanced diplomacy that prioritizes national interests.
