JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) is set to enhance its maritime capabilities with the acquisition of two advanced Fast Attack Missile Boats (KCR) measuring 70 meters each, manufactured by Sefine Shipyard in Turkey. This initiative is part of Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to modernize its naval fleet and improve national defense.
On October 30, 2024, a significant milestone was reached with the first steel-cutting ceremony at Sefine Shipyard in Altinova, Turkey.
The event was attended by key officials, including Rear Admiral Retiono Kunto, who represented the Chief of Naval Staff. This ceremony marks the commencement of the construction phase for these state-of-the-art vessels.
The boats are designed to be fully equipped for combat missions and will feature high-speed capabilities.
According to the Defense Ministry, the KCRs will have an operational speed exceeding 40 knots and will be capable of carrying up to 43 personnel, enhancing the Navy’s operational readiness.
During the ceremony, the Ministry of Defense emphasized the importance of this project, stating that the steel-cutting signifies the beginning of the ship’s structural development. The project will proceed through several key stages, including keel laying, launching, and final naming before the vessels are delivered to Indonesia.
Rear Admiral Retiono Kunto highlighted the collaborative efforts between Indonesia and Turkey in this defense project. He signed the formal documentation for the steel-cutting alongside Sefine Shipyard executives, reinforcing the commitment to high-quality construction and timely delivery.
