Strengthening Ties: Indonesia and Australia Boost Digital Collaboration
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has initiated discussions aimed at enhancing digital sector partnerships with the Australian Embassy in Indonesia.
Minister Meutya Hafid met with Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams on October 29 to explore collaborative opportunities that would benefit both nations.
Both governments have developed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Plan for 2025-2029. This plan focuses on several key areas, including economic cooperation, training scholarships, and innovations in the digital business landscape.
Minister Meutya emphasized the positive trajectory of collaboration between Indonesia and Australia, especially in the context of ongoing digital transformation efforts.
She highlighted that 19 Australian companies are interested in investing in Indonesia’s technology sector. She noted that this interest aligns with the growing importance of the digital economy in Indonesia’s overall economic growth. The increasing role of technology is seen as a vital factor for future development.
The discussions also addressed the need for enhanced cybersecurity cooperation, as both countries face similar challenges in implementing digital government initiatives. Minister Meutya urged the necessity for regular dialogue on cybersecurity issues, including threat perceptions and responses to harmful cyber activities.
Ambassador Williams expressed her hope for continued and strengthened cooperation between Australia and Indonesia. She pointed out existing initiatives, such as the Australia Awards scholarship program, which provides training in artificial intelligence, and visits by Australian tech firms to Indonesia.
The partnership includes efforts in cybersecurity training, which are crucial in bolstering both nations’ defenses against cyber threats. The collaboration aims to create a secure cyberspace that supports economic growth and innovation for both countries.
