JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that all Indonesian citizens in Iran are safe after Israeli airstrikes targeted the country on October 26, 2024. Approximately 392 Indonesians are currently residing in Iran, and the ministry is closely monitoring their situation.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has established communication with these citizens to ensure their well-being. According to a statement from the Ministry, all Indonesians have been accounted for and are unharmed.

The embassy has maintained a Level II Alert status since April 2024 in response to rising security tensions in Iran and its neighboring countries.

The Israeli airstrikes specifically targeted military installations in Tehran, Ilam, and Khuzestan. These attacks were reportedly in retaliation for Iranian missile strikes on Israel that occurred on October 1, 2024. The earlier strikes were a response to the assassination of Hamas leaders in Iran and Hezbollah figures in Lebanon.

In light of the ongoing situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to Indonesian citizens in Iran, Israel, and Lebanon. They are advised to remain vigilant, minimize unnecessary travel, and avoid areas considered to be high-risk.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of staying informed about emergency procedures and contingency plans. Indonesians are encouraged to adhere to any directives provided by the Indonesian diplomatic missions in the region.

For those planning to travel through the Middle East, caution is urged due to the potential for airspace closures and flight cancellations. The Ministry has advised citizens to monitor the availability of flights and remain aware of any changes to their travel plans.

Emergency contact numbers have been provided for Indonesians needing assistance, including hotlines for various Indonesian embassies in the region. The Ministry is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens during this period of heightened tension.(Uki Ruknuddin)
