SOUTH BORNEO, RAKYAT NEWS – In a significant initiative, the Australian Consul General in Makassar held an informative session for students of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) on planning for advanced studies in Australia. The event took place at the Faculty of Economics and Business and was attended by ULM’s Vice Rector IV, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc, along with over 200 students.

The Australian Consulate aims to promote educational opportunities in Eastern Indonesia, including South Kalimantan, by providing vital information for aspiring students. This event, featuring Todd Dias, the Australian Consul General, offered a unique chance for ULM students to explore potential pathways to study in Australia.

In 2024, the Australian government is set to offer 20 scholarship programs specifically for Eastern Indonesia, reinforcing diplomatic ties between Australia and Indonesia. Dias emphasized his commitment to creating opportunities for communities in Eastern Indonesia, particularly in South Kalimantan, to engage with Australian education programs. These programs include scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral studies, as well as educational seminars and cultural exchange initiatives.

Although it was Dias’s first visit to South Kalimantan, he expressed hope that his insights into securing scholarships would encourage ULM students to consider studying in Australia. “This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Australia and studying there,” he stated.

Dr. Yusuf Azis welcomed the Australian Consul’s visit and encouraged ULM graduates to seize these opportunities, noting that many faculty members at ULM are alumni of Australian universities.

This session marks a significant step in strengthening educational ties between Indonesia and Australia, providing ULM students with invaluable insights and opportunities for their academic futures. (Uki Ruknuddin)
