GERMANY, RAKYAT NEWS – Silmy Karim, Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, announced the launch of electronic passport (e-passport) services at the Consulate General of Indonesia (KJRI) in Frankfurt on September 20, 2024.

This initiative addresses the growing demand from Indonesian citizens in the region.

With an increase in the number of Indonesians residing in Germany, especially over the past two years, KJRI Frankfurt has adapted its services to meet public needs.

“The availability of e-passports simplifies the process for Indonesians working or studying in Germany, making it faster and more convenient,” stated Silmy in a press release.

There are currently over 17,000 Indonesians under the jurisdiction of KJRI Frankfurt. The first e-passport was issued to the Indonesian Consul General in Frankfurt, Antonius Yudi Triantoro, and another was awarded to a local Indonesian resident, Gwenda Praya Kinanti.

Frankfurt is now the tenth Indonesian representation to offer e-passport services, joining other cities like Singapore, Tokyo, and Los Angeles.

Antonius Yudi Triantoro noted the yearly increase in the Indonesian population in the KJRI Frankfurt area, predominantly comprising students and healthcare workers. He also emphasized the assistance from the Immigration Attaché in Berlin, which has facilitated passport services in several cities.

Silmy Karim’s visit included an inspection of immigration services in Düsseldorf, where he engaged with community representatives to gather feedback on immigration and citizenship services.

“I hope our citizens abroad experience the benefits of innovations and improvements in our services,” Silmy concluded. (Uki Ruknuddin)
