AUSTRALIA, RAKYAT NEWS – One of Indonesian largest bank, The Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has officially opened its first representative office in Sydney, Australia. This marks a significant milestone as BNI becomes the first Indonesian bank to establish a presence in Australia.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Royke Tumilaar, President Director of BNI, expressed enthusiasm about this new development.

“The establishment of our Sydney office is a key step in strengthening BNI’s international footprint.”

Sydney was selected for BNI’s expansion due to several strategic reasons. Firstly, Sydney is a prominent financial hub in the Asia-Pacific region, making it an ideal location for BNI to enhance its engagement with global financial markets and broaden its international presence.

Sydney serves as a major business and economic center in Australia. This offers BNI significant opportunities for business collaborations and investment ventures, both for Indonesian companies expanding into Australia and Australian firms seeking opportunities in Indonesia.

Another critical factor was the strong Indonesian diaspora community in Sydney. With around 42 percent of Indonesia’s expatriates residing in the city, BNI’s new office aims to better serve their banking needs and reinforce the connection between the Indonesian community and their home country.

Furthermore, the new office will enable BNI to tap into new markets and explore diverse opportunities in Australia, a region distinct from its existing markets. This geographic expansion aligns with BNI’s goal to explore and map new business prospects.

As a representative office, BNI Sydney will primarily focus on research activities, including studies on Australia’s economic and business landscapes. This will provide valuable insights for BNI’s strategic decision-making and market positioning.

The office will also play a crucial role in facilitating investment between Indonesia and Australia. It will offer advisory services, provide market information, introduce potential investors, and support direct investments in key strategic sectors.

Moreover, BNI Sydney will act as a hub for Indonesian and Australian entrepreneurs looking to explore new business opportunities. It plans to host seminars, workshops, and networking sessions to foster collaboration and mutual business benefits.

The new office will collaborate with embassies, consulates, and various business organizations to support government initiatives aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment between Indonesia and Australia.

Currently, BNI has a global presence with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, London, Amsterdam, and New York. The Sydney office underscores BNI’s commitment to expanding its global reach and enhancing its role in the international banking sector.

The opening of the Sydney office marks a significant advancement for BNI, reflecting its ambition to compete on the global stage, support economic growth, and strengthen bilateral business relationships between Indonesia and Australia. (Uki Ruknuddin)
