Saudi Arabia and Indonesia Collaborate on Cutting-Edge Floating Solar Initiative
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS– The Indonesian eletric giant, PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) has announced a partnership with a Saudi Arabian company to develop a floating solar power plant on Saguling Reservoir in West Java. The plant will have a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) and cover an estimated area of 95 hectares.
Edwin Nugraha Putra, CEO of PLN Indonesia Power, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing renewable energy in Indonesia. “The floating solar plant at Saguling Reservoir will be managed by PT Indo ACWA Tenaga Saguling, a joint venture between PLN Indonesia Power and ACWA Power, a Saudi company focused on renewable energy development,” he said.
ACWA Power is a Saudi Arabian company specializing in the development, investment, and operation of power generation and desalinated water production projects. Established in 2004, it focuses on various energy sectors, including conventional, renewable, and desalination projects. The company operates globally, contributing to sustainable energy solutions through a diverse portfolio of projects in solar, wind, and gas-fired power plants.
The project commenced with the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) between PLN’s CEO Darmawan Prasodjo and Rudolf Rinaldo Aritonang, CEO of PT Indo ACWA Tenaga Saguling. This agreement reinforces PLN Indonesia Power’s dedication to driving the country’s energy transition.
Construction of the floating solar plant will follow financing arrangements, with the facility expected to commence operations by June 2026. The initiative aims to accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition and support the government’s target of achieving net zero emissions by 2060 through continued investment in renewable energy.
