From Waste to Resource: MIND ID’s Innovative Water Management Techniques Unveiled
JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS — The Indonesia’s state-owned mining holding company (MIND ID), has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable environmental governance in the mining sector. This declaration was made during the Exclusive Session Talkshow at the 2nd Festival on Environment, Climate, Forestry, and Renewable Energy (LIKE), held in Jakarta on August 10, 2024.
Arief R. Wiwaha, Head of Environmental, Social, Governan (ESG) Performance and Reporting at MIND ID, stated, “MIND ID is dedicated to environmental integrity and robust governance, supporting Indonesia’s transition to a sustainable future. We aim to demonstrate that industrial growth and environmental preservation can coexist for the benefit of both current and future generations.”
He highlighted that MIND ID’s environmental and climate change management initiatives include several programs focused on water management and renewable energy.
For example, ANTAM, a subsidiary of MIND ID, has implemented an advanced water treatment plant to improve wastewater quality and maximize water recycling in production processes.
Similarly, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) uses a passive treatment method for mine acid water through artificial wetlands in Tanjung Enim and recycles this water for various activities.
PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is constructing a new desalination plant to supply water to its Manyar smelting facility
While PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (INALUM) is enhancing the efficiency of the Sigura-gura hydroelectric power plant to optimize water use.
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is a major Indonesian coal mining company. It is one of the largest producers of thermal coal in Indonesia and operates extensive mining operations primarily in South Sumatra. Established in 1950, PTBA is state-owned and plays a significant role in the country’s coal industry, supplying coal for both domestic power plants and international markets. The company is involved in various stages of the coal supply chain, from exploration and extraction to processing and distribution.
