JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise ( Beacukai Kemenkeu) have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 113.65 kilograms of marijuana from Thailand.

The drugs, concealed in 214 packages, were intended for shipment to Liverpool, England.

Deputy of BNN’s Narcotics Eradication Division Brigadier General I Wayan Sugiri revealed that the bust began with a tip from Customs officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, who grew suspicious of a package from Thailand. This information was relayed to BNN on July 24, 2024, at 6:00 PM WIB.

“The suspects, identified as AS and MM, have been detained. The marijuana was sent by an individual known as BN, who is still at large,” Brigadier General Sugiri said during a press conference monitored online from Jakarta

The marijuana was discovered in two locations. The first seizure occurred in Jaka Permai, Bekasi, West Java, where 60 packages weighing 31.88 kg were found inside five sacks containing bed covers. The second discovery was in Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta, where 154 packages totaling 81.77 kg were hidden in 29 boxes of camping equipment and three boxes of vacuum cleaners.

“The marijuana came in various strains, including strawberry heist and tropical passion,” Sugiri added.

The investigation revealed that AS had come to collect a package from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport import warehouse, where he was apprehended by BNN officers on July 25, 2024, around 2:30 PM WIB. A joint team from BNN and Customs then monitored the shipment to Bekasi, leading to the arrest of MM, who had instructed AS and was also the owner of PT CAS.
